April 24th - the day YouTube began: the first video uploaded to the platform
On April 24, 2005, the platform's first video, "Me at the Zoo," was uploaded by one of the service's founders, Jawed Karim. The clip is just 18 seconds long: Karim stands in a zoo with elephants in the background, simply talking into the camera. There's no production—it's a simple home video. It's still available on the platform and has garnered 388 million views in 21 years.
