A Pillow That Automatically Changes the Sleeper's Head Position (3 photos + 1 video)
A Japanese startup has developed a pillow that moves its owner's head during sleep, allowing them to wake up refreshed and without neck pain.
A Japanese startup has unveiled an unusual sleep solution – a pillow that automatically adjusts head position throughout the night.
The Mirakuru Pillow contains six air chambers that alternately inflate and deflate. This allows the sleeper's head to slowly shift, constantly shifting pressure points. This approach is intended to prevent muscle stiffness and reduce morning neck stiffness.
The idea belongs to Yukihiro Takenouchi, founder of the Rirakuru massage parlor chain. He says he noticed a recurring problem: even after a good massage, clients often complained of a heavy head in the morning. This is due to inactivity during sleep, which leads to muscle tension.
Unlike many modern gadgets, the Mirakuru Pillow is extremely easy to use. It doesn't have a mobile app or complicated settings. It's controlled via an external controller connected to the pillow via a thin tube. To activate the system, simply press a single button before bed.
The developers paid special attention to noise levels. The pneumatic mechanism operates almost silently—the stated noise level is no more than 50 dB, comparable to a quiet conversation. This means the pillow shouldn't disturb either the owner or their partner.
The device weighs approximately 4.2 kg—this is specifically designed to ensure stability on the mattress, preventing the pillow from shifting while the cameras are in use.
The project has already been successfully funded on Kickstarter. First deliveries are expected in June 2026. Early bird pricing is $261.
