The Thai army has recruited a record number of volunteers, offering a "break from wives."

For the first time, the Thai army has exceeded its voluntary conscription campaign plan. More than 30,000 volunteers submitted online applications, 105% of the number the Ministry of Defense initially planned to attract, according to a press release from the Thai Army Command. In previous years, the number of volunteers was half that.

The country attributes the military boom to a successful advertising campaign. For the first time, the military took to social media with humorous slogans, speaking to young people in a language they understand.

"Tired of your wife? There's no better place to get away from her than a military camp!"

The ad promises young men grieving over girlfriends who have left them such intense training that they'll forget about their treacherous lovers. They encourage enlisting in the navy "to at least learn to swim," and in the air force because, for a pilot, "everything is within easy reach." There are also sentimental offers: the advertisement emphasizes that on the recruits' first day of service, their mothers will receive their first month's salary into their account.
