A woolly dinosaur was unearthed in South Korea (5 photos + 1 video)
The paleontological world is currently in awe: the remains of a previously unknown dinosaur species, covered in fluffy feathers in life, have been discovered in South Korea. The discovery was so charismatic that scientists couldn't resist naming the new species Doolysaurus huhmini. 
This is a touching homage to both the popular Korean cartoon dinosaur Dooly and the eminent paleontologist Min Huh, who dedicated his life to studying the region's ancient dinosaurs. So now the world of science has its own officially registered animated character, frozen in stone. 
As for the appearance and habits of this ancient furry creature, Dulisaurus would hardly have terrified the inhabitants of the Cretaceous period who lived one hundred and thirteen million years ago. Adults of this species were barely the size of a well-fed lamb, and juveniles were no larger than a turkey. 
This miniature lizard walked exclusively on its two hind legs, which likely helped it maneuver quickly through dense undergrowth. Dulisaurus was completely unpretentious in its diet: its diet consisted of everything from succulent vegetation to small insects and lizards, making it a typical omnivorous creature of its era.
The discovery of Dulisaurus sheds light on the diversity of mid-Cretaceous fauna in what is now Asia and supports the hypothesis that featheredness and furry features were quite common among small theropods. This find proves that evolution sometimes created creatures that resemble playful fairy tale characters more than menacing blockbuster monsters. Now Korean animators will likely have to redraw their famous Duli, adding some authentic fluff in accordance with the latest scientific data.
