McLaren hypercar became a toy for the price of two budget cars (8 photos)
Amalgam, known for its highly detailed tabletop car replicas, has unveiled a new work. It's a 1:8 scale model of the McLaren W1 hypercar, which debuted in the fall of 2024. The starting price for the new model is £14,995. This is roughly a hundredth of the price of the W1 itself, and in our opinion, is almost equivalent to the cost of two budget cars in the base configuration. Personalization of the model is available at an additional cost.
The scale model was developed with input from McLaren Automotive engineers, using factory digital models and specifications. Over 3,000 man-hours were spent on development, with another 300 hours spent hand-assembling each model.
The miniature W1 measures approximately 57 centimeters in length. It features functional doors, a power-adjustable rear wing, and a detailed interior.
Production of the new model will be limited. Only 199 W1s will be built at the starting price, each finished in the factory Papaya Spark color: the true hypercar debuted in this shade. The model's exterior and interior can be custom-painted in any color combination, but the price for a personalized copy is significantly higher, starting at £20,995.
