A Polish resident heated his house with doughnuts, finding it more cost-effective than burning wood.
He calculated that one doughnut from Lidl contains approximately 440 kcal. 133 doughnuts equal approximately 10 kg of product with a calorific value of approximately 18.5 MJ/kg—almost the same as wood briquettes, as sugar and fat release a large amount of heat when burned.
As a result, the temperature in the house rose from 14°C to 22°C, and the doughnuts burned for approximately five hours.
10 kg of doughnuts cost him 12 zlotys, while the same amount of firewood costs 19 zlotys.
