An escaped emu was handcuffed

The police officer quickly realized that capturing the escaped emu, and indeed handling it, would be a challenge. The emu was uncooperative, exhibiting aggressive behavior and attempting to beat the officer with its paws (which, incidentally, had impressive claws). But Keisler proved he was up to any challenge. He not only lassoed the bird, but also successfully handcuffed its feet. Later, the man laughingly declared that this was a first for him—he had never handcuffed an emu before.

So, the fugitive was returned to its owner, and no charges were even brought against the emu (although its misbehavior and uncooperative behavior could well have angered the officer).
