Seconds before disaster: a skier and her dog were almost buried in an avalanche
Spanish skier Ares Masip was planning to ski down a mountain with her four-legged friend. Suddenly, the snow began to give way beneath her feet, signaling the start of an avalanche.
According to Ares, she was skiing on a mountainside in Andorra at an altitude of 2,400 meters, effectively triggering the avalanche. However, the extreme skier says she knows the area very well, having skied there "seven or eight times, and for the third time in the last five days."
She explains that the bottom line is that she completely misunderstood: it wasn't the conditions that were safe, but they "looked safe" to her. At the same time, she adds that even the most straightforward and obvious skiing always carries risks.
"Today, it all ended in a scare and became an important personal lesson for me. If this helps someone stay vigilant even in a 'trusted' place, then it was worth it!" the athlete concludes.
