Fort Bourtange is a star-shaped fortress located in the village of Bourtange in the province of Groningen, Netherlands. Built in 1593 by William I of Orange during the struggle for independence from Spain and the Eighty Years' War, it was originally intended to control the only route between the German counties and Groningen, as well as to create strategic obstacles to enemy movement and maneuver.
