The largest collection of snow globes
Nuremberg resident Josef Cardinal has amassed the world's largest collection of snow globes—11,000 pieces. He began collecting them in 1984 and continues to do so.
The record is listed in the Guinness Book of World Records. Josef first set the record in 2002, when he had 6,100 snow globes.
Traveling the world with his wife, he searched for the most unusual specimens. The collection includes everything from tiny globes the size of a pin to giants the height of a lamppost.
The oldest piece in his collection is a sphere depicting the Eiffel Tower, made in Paris in 1889.
Rare exhibits include a telephone shaped like a Coca-Cola bottle, a model of the sinking Titanic, and a helicopter with Santa Claus on it.
"I love the romance of snow globes and how they look when you shake them and watch the snow fall," Cardinal said.
