Cassava bags: a biodegradable alternative to plastic
Bags made from cassava (cassava) are considered one of the most promising solutions in the fight against plastic pollution. Cassava is a tropical root vegetable rich in starch, which is the primary raw material for the production of these materials.
During processing, the starch is mixed with natural ingredients, such as vegetable oils, resulting in a soft, elastic, and durable material with a latex-like feel. The main advantage of these bags is their complete biodegradability and compostability: they decompose in natural conditions within 90–180 days, leaving no microplastics. Furthermore, the bags are completely water-soluble without releasing toxic substances, making them safe even if they end up in oceans and other bodies of water.
