In England, a 42-year-old woman suffers from online shopping in online stores in her sleep. Because of this, she emptied her credit cards and went into debt.
Instead of counting sheep, she adds items to online shopping carts during late night shopping hours. She has already spent more than $3,800 on overnight shopping. The next morning she receives packages with orders, but does not remember when or how she bought it all. Among the items ordered were matches, toy houses, a refrigerator, a table, candy, salt and pepper shakers, paint cans and books.
Due to uncontrolled night shopping, the woman was forced to see a doctor, who discovered she had a rare sleep disorder called parasomnia.
"It's very frustrating and frustrating to go to bed thinking, 'I don't know where this night is going to go,'" she said.
Doctors note that a person with parasomnias may appear alert, walk or talk, eat or perform other similar activities, but do not realize this because the brain is only partially awake.
Knipes continues to combat the sleep disorder by wearing a continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) device to keep her airway open at night. She also began hiding her phone and tablet to avoid unwanted purchases in her sleep.
