Customer service told the couple that they could see from their records that the couple intended to buy the numbers, but the purchase did not go through because they only had 60p in their account.

In England, a couple who won £35 million on the lottery believed their lives had changed forever, but ended up getting nothing because they didn't have enough money in their bank account.

Spouses Edwina and David Nylan took part in the draw and entered 6 winning numbers on the Lottomobile app, winning them a total of £35,410 million. However, their dreams were dashed after they tried to win the jackpot - all because of their empty bank account.

Customer service told them they could see from their records that the couple intended to buy the numbers, but the purchase did not go through because they only had 60p in their account.

"We tried to top up but didn't notice that it wasn't registered either. You get an email to confirm your purchase but I didn't remember to check because it was just before Christmas and I was very busy. Camelot now told me that they are looking into this with their IT department,” the man said.

Edwina says she was upset because they had been playing for several years in a row. Despite the terrible disappointment, the couple said they would continue to play the lottery, hoping to have better luck next time.

"The player did attempt to purchase an online Lotto ticket several times, however there were insufficient funds in the player's account. Therefore, the purchase attempts were not successful. We do not have any records of the player's attempts to top up the account, and no one from our customer service team could see the numbers." which a player has attempted to add. When someone successfully purchases a ticket on the Lottery website, they will see a purchase confirmation screen, receive an email confirming the purchase and will be able to see the ticket in their online National Lottery account,” a Camelot spokesperson said.

The lottery added that only tickets that have been successfully purchased can participate in the draw. Therefore, players must ensure that they have sufficient funds in their account to complete the ticket purchase.
