How cable is laid for offshore wind farms: a ship aground – according to plan

To pull the heavy cable ashore during low tide, the cable-laying vessel is intentionally grounded—a completely controlled process. At high tide, the vessel is pulled into shallow water and "settled" on the bottom using ballast systems. When the water recedes, the vessel is stable, and the crew pulls the cable ashore.

This method reduces the risk of damage, eliminates the need for intermediate barges, and allows work even during short weather windows. With the next high tide, the vessel resurfaces and continues its route.
