Late fatherhood under fire: The Chinese ridiculed a 74-year-old director (3 photos + 1) (video)

Renowned Chinese film producer and director Zhang Jizhong was ridiculed online after posting a video celebrating his daughter's first birthday.





Users wrote that the director "won't live to see his daughter's wedding" and that the child would have to care for her elderly father.

Zhang, the author of popular film adaptations of classic Chinese novels, is married to Du Xinling, a former agent of his and 31 years his junior. The couple married in 2017 and are raising a son and daughter together, as well as Du's son, born before their marriage.



Following a wave of insults, Du announced she was suing the cyberbullies. She noted that she had collected evidence of the authentic accounts that were posting malicious comments and called on users to be more responsible and kind.



Despite the criticism, the couple continues to blog about travel and Chinese culture, where they have over 5.7 million subscribers. Du emphasized that their relationship is sincere, and a happy family life is a private matter in which outsiders should not interfere.
