BMW Neue model updates Klasse will be more profound than a typical restyling (2 photos)
A new era for BMW is here
After years of anticipation, the era of the BMW Neue Klasse is finally here. The first model to arrive will be the second-generation iX3, and will soon be joined by the new i3, a fully electric version of the 3 Series. The Neue Klasse brings not only a new design language, but also cutting-edge technologies that will be implemented throughout the rest of the BMW family.
Release plans and updates
BMW has confirmed that it will launch more than 40 new or updated vehicles by the end of 2027. They will feature the same computing systems as the iX3, and many will also get the new Panoramic iDrive system. The iX3’s technologies represent a “quantum leap,” according to the manufacturer.
Words from the head of the Neue Klasse
Every technology, everything in the iX3 is completely new. We will implement this technology across the entire portfolio, and quickly. We have never done this before, but it is necessary, given things like processing power and user interface. There have been so many big leaps.
The quantum leaps in the Neue Klasse technologies are so great that if we don’t integrate them into the current portfolio, it will feel outdated. With the Neue Klasse, we have made such great progress that it is as if we have missed a whole generation of models, so we have to do it across the entire range.
No ordinary updates
One of the biggest changes will be the upcoming refreshed BMW models. Typically, the technological updates in facelifted models are relatively minor, with the focus on improving aesthetics. However, it has been confirmed that the next generation of facelifted models will be much more complex than a traditional facelift.
Traditionally, we have had one mid-life update of seven to nine years, mostly design, but with small digital changes. Today, we update the digital part every year, so it is very important to integrate this into the car. We will not change the body structure of the existing models, but we will integrate the most important aspects of the Neue Klasse: the design language, Panoramic iDrive, ADAS and all the digital features.
These changes show that BMW is serious about digital transformation and adapting to modern market demands. Integrating cutting-edge technologies into all models, regardless of their update cycle, can significantly increase the brand's competitiveness. In addition, regular software updates will allow customers to stay on top of technological innovations without having to buy a new car. This can also affect long-term customer loyalty, as they will feel that their cars remain modern throughout their entire life cycle.
