Audi E5 Sportback goes on sale in China

The new electric Audi E5 Sportback, available exclusively in China, starts at 235,900 yuan (about $33,100). The car is offered with two battery options: 76 kWh and 100 kWh. The most powerful version with two engines with a capacity of 776 hp costs from $45,000.

Popularity of the model and pre-orders

Audi recently launched a separate brand of electric cars in China under the name AUDI (in capital letters), and this move is already showing success. When pre-orders for the E5 opened on August 18, more than 10,000 reservations were received within half an hour. Such figures are rare for large manufacturers with long histories, but common among Chinese startups. These numbers create a FOMO effect, showing how many people have already expressed interest in this electric car with German roots.

Pre-orders are not final and irrevocable, so it is likely that some customers will cancel them before receiving the car.

Technical specifications and equipment

The base Pioneer version with a 76 kWh battery and a 295 hp rear-wheel drive motor offers a claimed range of 618 km. Other versions include the rear-wheel drive Pioneer Plus with 402 hp and a 100 kWh battery starting at 269,900 yuan ($38,000), as well as a 518 hp dual-motor version with an 83 kWh battery for the same price. The flagship version, the Flagship Quattro, has a 100 kWh battery, two 776 hp motors and a range of 647 km, and its price starts at 319,900 yuan ($45,000).

Interior and features

The AUDI E5 Sportback’s interior is significantly different from Western Audi models and more reminiscent of other Chinese electric cars. It is equipped with a 59-inch screen that stretches across the entire dashboard, digital rear-view mirrors, soft materials such as leather and Alcantara, and wireless phone chargers.
