Incredibly: the Porsche 911 has become the top-selling car in this country (3 photos)
Car preferences in different countries of the world
Automobile markets of different countries often show unexpected trends in the choice of buyers. A study conducted by analyst Felipe Muñoz revealed the most popular car models in each country for 2024. While global rankings are often topped by familiar models, local markets have their own unexpected leaders.
Unexpected sales leaders
Among the most interesting discoveries of the study is the Porsche 911, which has become the most popular car in Andorra. This is a clear reflection of the high income levels in this small country, located between France and Spain. Despite Andorra being only 181 square miles and having a population of around 82,000, Porsche managed to sell 83 units of the 911.
Toyota came in second place, but not with a regular model, but with the powerful GR Yaris, while the Porsche Cayenne and Macan rounded out the top four.
The geography of car preferences
Customer preferences vary significantly across regions of the world. For example, in Aruba the Kia Rio is the most popular model, in Australia the Ford Ranger pickup, and in Romania the Dacia Logan. The Toyota Hilux dominates in many countries, including Bolivia, Cameroon, Chile, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Djibouti, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Guinea and Iraq. This model demonstrates an extremely wide geography of popularity.
Electric vehicles and regional characteristics
These studies also show the growth in the popularity of electric vehicles. In China, the BYD Qin became the most popular model, while in Denmark and Norway, known for their commitment to electric vehicles, the Tesla Model Y was the sales leader. In the Middle East, preference is given to large SUVs: the Nissan Patrol leads the rankings in the UAE, and the Land Cruiser 300 in Qatar, Bahrain, Oman and Kuwait.
Lesser-known but popular models
Among other interesting discoveries is the popularity of models that may not be known on a global level. For example, the Geely Coolray compact crossover has become the most popular car in Belarus, while the Jetour X70 is the best-selling car in Angola. In Iran, the Sapia Quik is the most popular model, in Côte d’Ivoire, the Suzuki Dzire, and in Malaysia, the Perodua Bezza took first place last year.
It is interesting that some models show stable popularity over many years, while others suddenly appear in the rankings, which indicates dynamic changes in automotive markets. A variety of cultural, economic and geographical factors continue to shape the unique automotive landscapes in each country, making the global automotive market extremely diverse and interesting to observe.
