An Italian Sets a Speed Record on a Ship's Deck in a Supercar (7 photos)
Italian racing driver Fabio Barone, driving a Ferrari SF90 Stradale supercar, set a new record for the fastest speed on a ship. On the deck of an aircraft carrier, he reached 164 km/h. According to Newsauto, this improved his own record from 2024.
The run took place on the flight deck of the Trieste, anchored in Civitavecchia, Italy. The flight deck is 236 meters long, and Fabio Barone used 205 of those meters for acceleration and braking.
The driver and his assistants reportedly prepared for the record attempt for nine months. However, the race almost never took place: the aircraft carrier spent the night before the record-breaking day at sea, and Barone's team was reluctant to release the supercar onto the wet deck, fearing it would not brake effectively. However, the record was set after the deck dried in the sun.
In 2024, Fabio Barone used the aircraft carrier Garibaldi for a similar experiment, achieving a speed of 152 km/h. The athlete holds seven Guinness World Records, including, for example, a sprint along the famous Tianmen Highway in China. It is still unknown whether this sprint will be included in the book; the timekeepers' data has been submitted for review.
