In the UK, a Recidivist Pensioner Stole Steaks from a Store (3 photos + 1 video)
A 63-year-old British man stole steaks worth over £250 from a store. This happened just days after a judge gave him a second chance for a similar crime.
CCTV captured Malcolm Ravenhill parking a silver scooter near a cooler at a Co-op store in Orton Goldway, Peterborough, on September 3. The repeat offender grabbed several packages of meat and hid them in the trunk.
Six days before the brazen theft, Ravenhill received a suspended sentence for a similar incident. The court tried to warn the pensioner and give him a chance to reform.
Last week, the man was arrested at his home on Dogsthorpe Road in Peterborough. He confessed and was sentenced to a year in prison.
Police officer Sam Malton said: "Ravenhill is a repeat offender who was not brought to his senses by a suspended sentence. He failed to consider the consequences of his actions on others and continued to break the law. I am pleased that he has now received the punishment he deserves for his actions."
According to the UK Office for National Statistics (ONS), 530,643 shoplifting incidents were recorded from January to March. This is a 20% increase on the previous year.
The main reason for this problem is the rising cost of living.
