At least three people were killed and 70 more injured when a gas tanker exploded in Mexico City. More than a dozen cars were also burned. 
Preliminary reports indicate that the tanker overturned on a highway in the Iztapalapa neighborhood in eastern Mexico City. A series of explosions followed.
According to the mayor of Mexico City, Clara Brugada, more than a dozen cars were burned.
"As a result of the overturning of a gas tanker in Puente de la Concordia, the resulting fire, and the subsequent explosion, 70 people have been injured so far, 19 of whom are in serious condition. Three people have died," the official reported.
Firefighters, rescuers, medical personnel, and police are working at the scene.
