A liquefied natural gas (LNG) tanker is a vessel specifically built to transport LNG. LNG is natural gas that has been cooled to -162°C, turning it into a liquid. This allows gas to be transported over long distances in tankers.
LNG tankers are very large vessels. The largest of them can transport up to 260,000 cubic meters of LNG. LNG tankers have a double hull. The inner casing holds the LNG, and the outer casing protects it from the environment.
LNG tankers are equipped with insulation that helps keep the LNG cool. Insulation usually consists of polyurethane foam or fiberglass. They are loaded and unloaded using special pumps. Pumps are used to transfer LNG from a tank to a ship and vice versa.
