A woman spent all her money on new teeth and "aged 20 years" in one day (4 photos)
Moira Devlin, 52, from Scotland, dreamed of getting the perfect smile, but a visit to the dentist turned her life into a nightmare. The woman suffers from pain and facial deformity after a botched £24,000 dental implant procedure.
In June 2023, during a work trip to Leeds, the woman noticed an advert for a dental clinic offering implant services. Initially, she planned to install crowns and bridges.
"I always had beautiful teeth, a beautiful smile and a photogenic face. My only obsession was to maintain it," says Moira.
A fatal consultation
During the consultation, she was offered a full set of implants, claiming that this would help to avoid dental problems in the future.
"During the consultation, they aggressively advertised to me that they could accurately reproduce my teeth. I constantly said that I did not have the money, but they convinced me that this way I would save on future crowns and bridges," the woman recalls.
Moira agreed to the procedure and took out a loan to finance the operation. On July 10, 2023, the first of four operations began, which cost 24 thousand pounds. She pays £666 a month and has not yet paid off the debt in full.
"After the second operation, I realized that something was wrong. It seems to me that the lower jaw is stretched and the nose is compressed. My neck cannot be in a neutral position, it is always tilted upwards," the patient admits.
Dentist's mistake
During the third and fourth operations, she asked to correct the implants, complaining that they looked too big for her mouth. However, after completing all the procedures, the British said that they could not do anything more.
Now the woman suffers from pain in the jaw and ears. She cannot eat normally and experiences excessive salivation.
"It's chaos - my face is all askew and my teeth are too big for my jaw. I feel like I've aged 20 years overnight," Moira says in despair.
The doctor warned that the pain would get worse over time. The patient is trying to find a surgeon to fix the mistake, but the minimum cost is £10,000.
"I've been looking for a surgeon for two years but I can't afford one. I'm constantly drooling and completely disfigured. I'm tired of the constant tingling in my jaw," she adds.
Moira's family doctor referred her to a specialist for a jaw exam to help ease the pain.
