Beauty and the Beast: a rising bullfighting star intends to go down in history (7 photos + 1 video)
On Sunday, a female matador announced a new achievement. Olga Casado, 23, killed a bull at a fair in Madrid.
The judge noted her excellent performance and awarded her the prize - the "bull's ear".
In the few years since Casado entered the arena, she has left a bright mark on the world of ancient Spanish sports. She trained at the José Cubero bullfighting school in Madrid and made her debut in 2022.
Last November, Olga told El Mundo she intended to become "the best female matador in history." The Spanish woman wants to be an example for society, break down barriers and prove to herself and the world that self-confidence and hard work can lead to the fulfillment of dreams.
But don't forget that bullfighting is a fight to the death.
The grief-stricken mother of a famous Portuguese matador slammed people celebrating her son's death over the weekend.
Manuel Maria Trindade, 22, died on August 30 after a fight with an enraged bull in Lisbon's Campo Pequeno square.
Seconds after the show began, the 680-kg animal lifted Trindade by its horns and slammed him into a wall.
The incident has sparked a nationwide controversy in Portugal. Animal rights activists have called for a ban on the "barbaric" sport. Others have simply noted that the man got what he deserved.
In response, Trindade's mother, Alzira, wrote an open letter in which she fought back: "I want to thank you for the applause, laughter and joy at the death of my son. Did you know him well enough to be happy about this? Did you know that he loved animals?
Yes, we always had dogs, they were part of our family. They slept next to him, and when he came home, they were always happy... Animals sense a good person! My son was part of a proud and brave brotherhood. These guys never torture a bull, they only handle it skillfully."
The woman said that she is still waiting for the return of Manuel's body, who became an organ donor.
