Muzzling yourself from trucks is a super-fashionable trend in Java (7 photos)
There is a very strange folk hobby in Java - deafening speakers on the streets, so loud that the heart stops a little from the bass.
They turn them on for any occasion: weddings, street festivities, national holidays. This phenomenon is called sound choreography, and it is damn harmful, but widespread.
How many of the workers on this truck are deaf in both ears?
Massive Javanese self-harm
In fact, cool powerful speakers were popular before, back in 2014, you could invite such an audio system to a wedding - you're rich. But the trouble is that in recent years such systems have become more accessible, more widespread, someone brought a bunch of speakers to Java, and the whole country has been shaking ever since. Sound-choreograph as a name comes from the English word "sound" and the Javanese word "vibrate". And when such a system is turned on nearby, everything in people really does vibrate, including internal organs. Sound choreographers are usually entire caravans loaded with speakers that arrive at a location, plug in and turn on.
Who of these people on the street WANTED to hear this?
The biggest collections are usually on Indonesian Independence Day, which is celebrated on August 17. And the police are already afraid that there will be many deaths. Because already in August several people have died right at the sound show. Usually these are women with weakened health who complain of dizziness. Of course, the sound itself cannot kill, but it can seriously undermine an already weak heart or other organs.
Why Java fun is harmful
It looks incredibly cool. If this were the movie Independence Day and we were attacked by aliens who are afraid of sound
Firstly, it reaches everyone who did not even give consent. On holidays, trucks filled to the brim with speakers drive through the streets of cities and villages, "irradiating" everyone with their happiness. Secondly, it is harmful to hearing, heart, and everything else. Many of these speakers can reach 120 to 135 decibels, which exceeds the World Health Organization's maximum safety level of 85 decibels.
I feel sick just looking at the picture
But today, there are about 1,200 companies in Malang catering to the demand for "sound choreograph." Of these, 500 supply "high-power" speakers. One such truck with a killer sound system costs around Rp 1 billion. The cost of renting one truck is "20 to 30 million" Rp, although in other areas it can go up to Rp 60 million, depending on "technical specifications, availability of lighting."
Children running away from a village party
Usually young people chip in to buy such a party. They chip in 500,000 rupees to rent a truck. At the same time, the city or village districts compete with each other on the holidays to see who can play the loudest music. The louder, the better. If there are 14 districts in a village, they can hire 14 sound systems at once, and to outrun each other, they can hire several trucks. So, in one city, 114 such sound machines can work at the same time!
This is an ad for DJs on choreographies. And Java is full of playlists for hellish machines
At the same time, anything can be played from a truck: from Islamic songs to folk music. Especially often, almost every day, trucks work in the summer months for any reason. Since the authorities do nothing, the residents of Java asked the religious leader to say that turning up the volume so loud is haram. Especially with religious chants.
