The era of computer game development in the 90s can surprise. Artist Nate Wells revealed an unexpected fact about the game System Shock 2, released in 1999. A video of the producer's colonoscopy was used to create textures for one of the levels.
Artist Nate Wells said that in the late 90s he was involved in level design for System Shock 2, where the plot involves the player getting inside a living organism created by the collective mind of parasites.
The idea of making doors in the form of an opening anus arose, and Nate could not find a suitable image for a long time.
Then producer Josh Randall simply gave him a recording of his colonoscopy - it was this that formed the basis for the "sphincter doors" and corridors stylized as entrails.
"He gave me a video of his colonoscopy, and I ended up taking a still image of his colon. Then I took that into photoshop, straightened it out, and used it as the base texture for those sphincter doors. So if you look at those doors, you'll see Josh Randall's anus."
