Tesla has published a report on its work for the second quarter of 2025, according to which both sales of electric cars and, accordingly, the company's revenue and profit have declined. The most expensive models are selling the worst, with deliveries falling by half. Tesla expects to improve things by bringing the most affordable offer to the market - pilot production of an inexpensive electric car has already begun.





Tesla has delivered less than 374 thousand Model 3 and Model Y electric cars to customers, which is 12% less than for the same period in 2024. Deliveries of other models, including Model S, Model X and Cybertruck, fell by 52% to 10.4 thousand. The company was able to show positive dynamics only in one category - Model 3/Model Y production, which grew by 3% year-on-year, but at the same time was noticeably inferior, for example, to the indicators of the third and fourth quarters of 2024.



Tesla's revenue for the specified period decreased by 19%, to $16.7 billion, gross profit - by 15%, to $3.9 billion. Tesla explains the losses by both general negative trends in the market and increased competition. At the same time, the company assures that the situation will improve in the second half of the year, since key electric cars have been significantly improved. In addition, Tesla is counting on new services, such as robotaxi.





By the end of 2025, Tesla's model line should be replenished with the most affordable electric car. The head of the company, Elon Musk, announced at a conference on the results of the second quarter that its pilot production has already begun and the assembly of commercial cars will be launched soon. Their entry into the market is planned for the fourth quarter. However, based on his words, one should not expect any fundamental innovations. As Musk hinted, the budget offer will be the most simplified Model Y.

Elon Musk himself previously stated that the budget Tesla will not be a new model, but a simplified version of Model Y, and, according to the publication, the new photos confirm this.



Among the external differences of the new modification of Model Y, so far it has been possible to record only the rejection of the diode strip along the edge of the hood and other taillights.

Judging by the photos, there will be more changes in the interior. For example, the affordable Model Y will lose its panoramic roof and touch panel for rear passengers, and will also receive a redesigned central armrest. At the same time, the electric car will retain the previous steering column switches and central display.

The publication states that all improvements are aimed at reducing production costs and, as a result, the cost of the electric car for the end consumer. The company wants to launch a cheap Model Y in order to maintain an advantage over its increasingly active Chinese competitors. According to preliminary data, sales of such an electric car in China may start as early as the fourth quarter.
