Remember the tale of the old man and the goldfish? I've brought you the Indian version.
Imagine a typical working day of an Indian fisherman, leading an ordinary life among the vastness of the ocean and a modest income. But one morning the world turned upside down: instead of the usual trifles, a real "gold mine" appeared in the network.
Our hero, fishing from the trawler Nani Gopal near the mouth of the Digha River, accidentally came across an unprecedented sight: a whole school of huge spotted croakers were darting about in the water. Fate decided to give him a surprise, because the whole school got caught in the net at once. Instead of small crustaceans, the fisherman pulled out a treasure trove: each specimen weighed at least 20 kilograms.
Large specimens of spotted croaker are rarer, which makes a big catch a significant event.
Then events developed rapidly. Crowds of people began to gather at the local auction: tourists arrived to gawk at the miracle of nature, traders gasped in delight, seeing the rarest giants.
In one fell swoop, the savvy entrepreneurs paid a fantastic 3.3 million rupees for 29 specimens - a figure that many office workers would envy. The fact is that the spotted croaker is valued far beyond the kitchen: its internal organs are used to make folk medicine and are added to cosmetics.
This is how, literally after one successful fishing trip, a simple fisherman turned into a millionaire in a matter of hours.
