The island where everyone brings bras (5 photos)
There is a very unusual ritual on the Thai island of Ko Nom Sao. But it couldn't be any other way, because it is called the Island of Breast Milk.
Note that the man also brought a bra
What do bras have to do with it
Let's start with the fact that the island of Ko Nom Sao is shaped like a woman's breast. It is only a 10-minute boat ride from the mainland. And so-called believers often sail there, bringing bras as symbolic offerings. The origins of the ritual come from a tragic legend about a beautiful young woman named Yomdoy.
Climbing the steps with their gifts
Yomdoy's father wanted to marry a Chinese ruler, while her mother wanted her to marry a prince from Phetchaburi Province in Thailand. In a fit of rage, the father killed the unshared daughter Yomdoy and threw her body into the sea. One of her breasts became the sacred Ko Nom Sao. The other formed a twin island in Chanthaburi Province in eastern Thailand.

The legend got a new twist 80 years ago. Then a fisherman landed on the island during a storm and saw a mysterious glowing light. He decided that it was the spirit of the goddess Yomdoy. Then a sanctuary was built in her honor. And then the practice of offering bras took root. Bras signify intimate hopes in love and relationships.
And what, only women can?

Every year, a whole line of "believers" in the gift of a bra sails to Ko Nom Sao, especially women. But if you are a man, you can still bring a gift, just do not steal the bra, but buy and keep it for yourself, so that it is more "your own". Donated bras are carefully sorted and distributed among local needy groups of residents and poor communities.
At least two men in this photo, or one....
But to be honest, because the bras are quickly put away and sorted, there is not much to look at there. But if there was an 8-meter mountain of bras, at least you could take pictures. So it's more like making a wish than taking funny photos.
