Alternative funerals: in Britain they propose to dissolve bodies and flush them down the drain (4 photos)
This method of disposal of the deceased has not yet received approval, but this may soon change. Supporters of this method insist on the environmental friendliness of their method.
An alternative and controversial method of burial may soon appear in Britain. So-called water cremation, resomation, alkaline hydrolysis or "boiling in a bag" involves dissolving the body and then flushing the liquid down the drain. Supporters of alkaline hydrolysis insist that their method is less destructive to the environment than burial or cremation, since no harmful liquids or toxic gases are released. They believe that water cremation should replace traditional burials. However, the "boiling" of the body has not yet received approval from the legal commission.
As reported by the media, the technology of water cremation was patented back in 1888, but has not received widespread distribution. The body of the deceased is placed in a special vessel under pressure, which contains heated water and alkaline chemicals, then the liquid is heated again to 160 degrees Celsius. After about 4 hours, it can be washed off a brown liquid remains, which is called "drainage". The liquid, reminiscent of tea or ale, does not contain body tissue or DNA, so it can be safely washed down the drain, according to supporters of water cremation. The remaining bones can be crushed into dust and given to the relatives of the deceased so that they can scatter it or keep it in a vase, as they do with ashes after cremation. The same goes for various hip and other implants - they remain in the container untouched.
Ethics experts note that some clients oppose this method, considering it a desecration of the body, since after the procedure what is left of it is washed down the drain. Others, on the contrary, consider such a burial a reflection of baptism at the beginning of life. It is noted that water cremation has been practiced in South Africa, Canada and the USA for several years
It is noted that now the so-called water cremation costs the same as traditional cremation by fire. The price varies from 1,500 to 5,000 dollars.
