In the heart of Wyoming, in the outskirts of Medicine Bow, lies one of the most unusual architectural wonders of the world - the Fossil Cabin.





This is the only building on the planet built entirely from real dinosaur bones.

History of creation



Built in the 1930s by local enthusiast and entrepreneur Thomas Boylan, the cabin became a kind of tribute to the geological heritage of the region. Medicine Bow is known for its rich paleontological finds, especially the remains of sauropods such as Apatosaurus (brontosaurus). The bones for the construction were found just a few kilometers from the site of the cabin.

The idea was both practical and eccentric: instead of traditional stone or wood, Boylan decided to use what nature generously provided - fossilized fragments of ancient giants. The result is a unique structure made up of approximately 5,700 dinosaur bones held together with cement.

Architectural Value





The hut is a small two-room structure that was originally used as a tourist attraction. Its walls look like a bizarre mosaic of ribs, vertebrae, and other parts of dinosaur skeletons. Not only is it an amazing example of architectural creativity, but it is also a visual reminder of the deep history of the Earth.

Paleontological Significance



Medicine Bow is located near the famous Como Bluff, one of the largest dinosaur graveyards in the world. It was here that the "bone rush" began in the 19th century, when scientists and collectors actively searched for fossils. Fossil Cabin has become a symbol of this unique heritage, attracting travelers and dinosaur enthusiasts from around the world.

Current Status



Today, Fossil Hut is a historic monument and a popular tourist attraction. Although it is no longer used as a residence, its walls continue to tell its amazing story. For many, this place is a symbol of the connection between the past and the present, a reminder that even the most ancient remains can find new life in the hands of man.
