Writer and historian Sarah Chrisman has always believed that she lives in the wrong era, and considers Victorian times to be ideal. Therefore, she adheres to the fashion, manners and activities of those times, does not use a telephone and loves to wear corsets.

Journalists write that it is impossible to find a TV, smartphone or other modern devices in the author's house. As a devoted fan of the Victorian era, she loves to cook according to 19th century recipes, and spends her free time reading, sewing or talking with her husband.

"I've always had the feeling that I was born in the wrong era. That's why I like to wear corsets, ride vintage bicycles and don't even have a regular phone. It makes me feel happy," admits Ms. Chrisman.

When she met her lover Gabriel, with whom she corresponded through the usual letters by mail and who turned out to be a historian by education, the couple decided to show the peculiarities of life in the late 19th century. Thanks to their enthusiasm, the couple also created their own blog on YouTube, but they do not keep technology at home.

"As a writer, I like to think of myself as a tour guide to the past. Through my books, I give people private tours of the Victorian era. One of the reasons I write my manuscripts by hand is to ensure that my own voice comes through in a way that digital writing or AI tools wouldn't. Our individual voices are a beautiful part of our humanity, and we should continually nurture them without letting machinery overwhelm them," she admits.

Journalists write that the couple also runs a household, raises chickens, ducks, pigeons and rabbits, and also does gardening. The woman sews all the clothes that the spouses wear by hand and takes into account the rules of fashion at that time.

Mrs. Chrisman says that she was not accepted because of her 19th century outfits when she went out to the store or in public. The woman often received threats and ridicule, but the woman does not pay attention to this and says that they decided to move with her husband from Seattle to another place where they feel comfortable together.

According to the writer, she and her husband adapted many things from modern times to the Victorian era: cooking methods, coffee, sweets and drinks. Although at first she was unable to arrange everything to the standards of the era, however, the result was worth it.

"There are so many things in the world that cost people so much money and consume so many resources. But the question is - why do they have them if they do not use them? Because they need to? In fact, people should ask themselves: is the life as it is now really worth the stress, the money, the time? If not, then perhaps it is time to think and choose something that may be a better choice," says Ms. Chrisman.
