An 80-year-old man doesn’t spend even 5 euros a month on food - he steals all his food from the trash heap.





80-year-old Heinz lives in the German city of Darmstadt. He lives alone, he used to work as an engineer at a large enterprise, so he receives a very good pension of €3.6 thousand.

He also loves to dig in the trash.

From there he carries expired food and clothing, household appliances and pieces of wood, which he uses to heat his house. For years he spends mere pennies, all thanks to his native landfill:

I live frugally, that's how I was raised! I don’t even spend 5 euros a month on food. Maybe I'll buy some cooking oil or something else if I run out. But most of my food is in the trash.



He doesn't have a mobile phone or TV. The tight-fisted grandfather's only expenses are for a computer and the Internet. He couldn’t find a good laptop in a trash heap, so he had to buy it and pay for access to the network. There, Heinz watched lectures on investments and thought about where to invest his accumulated money. While he was digging through the trash, the man put aside €700 thousand and decided to buy real estate.

I purchased several buildings near my home, renovated them myself and rented them out. Used to be a rummager, now he's a respectable homeowner. If everything goes as it should, by his 90th birthday, the “lord of the landfill” will have bought up an entire street in his city.
