Girl traveled 370 km to throw a dead mouse in her ex's mailbox (4 photos)
Eleanor Hepburn, 22, turned her ex-partner's life into a horror movie. The couple's relationship ended in September 2023, but the British woman could not come to terms with the breakup and harassed her victim with calls, text messages and emails. She spent 4 hours traveling from her home in Portsmouth to her ex's apartment in Warrington, where she made scandals.
She once barricaded her lover's door with bins, and on another occasion left a dead mouse in his letterbox and scattered the rodents all over the stairs.
Hepburn continued to visit Warrington every weekend. The court heard she would peer into her victim's window, yank the door handle and check the letterbox. She found out where her new flame lived and threw eggs at her windows, posting the video on Snapchat.
The victim said: “It has affected me so much that I don’t recognize myself anymore. Every night I wake up. I have nightmares about being killed or something bad happening to me or my family. Eleanor has threatened to set the apartment on fire more than once. Every day I prepare myself for the possibility of finding a dead animal in the mailbox or in the stairwell.”
“Eleanor has caused me a lot of stress, anxiety and deep depression. Because of her, my life has turned into a real horror movie. But unlike a movie, I can’t just turn off the TV and stop watching it.”
During questioning, Hepburn told police that she bought frozen mice from a pet store and threw them around because she was angry.
During the hearing, the defendant admitted: “I’m very sorry. I sincerely regret what happened and I wish I could turn back time. I’m not trying to justify my behavior. I just want to say that I’m sorry and I can change.”
Daniel McLaughlin, the lawyer, said his client was having a hard time dealing with the breakup of her first serious relationship.
The girl was sentenced to 22 months in prison.
Judge David Swinnerton addressed her: “Like any other person at the age of 22, you are capable of change. I believe that many of the things you have done are dictated by immaturity and emotional instability. You cannot expect people to love you. It is sad to admit that, but it is true. It is something you need to learn. Sometimes it is worth accepting bad experiences as part of life and moving on. You are still very young. You have your whole life ahead of you. If you want her to be happy, you need to learn from this and think carefully about how to behave in freedom."
