Desert plant that can rise from the dead

9 April 2025

This is a club moss, one of the most resilient plants in the world. It can hibernate for years during severe drought and "come back to life" when water appears.

Selaginella lepidophylla grows in the Chihuahuan Desert and, thanks to its ability to hibernate, can survive in extreme drought conditions: curled into a ball, the core hides in the shade, which helps to retain residual moisture while waiting for better conditions.
