A Chinese tourist in Sri Lanka was seriously injured after leaning out of a moving train to take the perfect souvenir photo. The woman failed to notice a tunnel ahead and crashed into a wall, sustaining serious injuries.
The incident took place on Sunday, March 9. The traveler was traveling from Nanu Oya to Badulla. While the train was moving, the passenger leaned out, holding onto the handrails. She failed to notice the danger and hit her head on the wall of the tunnel, causing her to lose her balance and fall.
The 35-year-old victim is now reported to be in critical condition after suffering severe head and leg injuries. She was rushed to Haputale Regional Hospital and then transferred to two other hospitals for special care.
On March 10, the Chinese Embassy in Sri Lanka posted a message on its website asking tourists to "stay as far away from the train doors as possible and not to lean out to take photos."
The woman's actions have sparked a heated debate on social media about the safety of such photo shoots in mainland China.
