Turkish airport employees locked their colleague in the luggage compartment (2 photos)
He stayed there for about an hour at minus 25 degrees. As a result of the incident, the man suffered frostbite on both legs, a concussion, and psychological trauma.
The incident occurred on December 15, but it has only become known now.
Ali Celikten was loading luggage on board Turkish Airlines flight THY1843 from Istanbul to Athens in mid-December. While he was putting things in the luggage compartment of the Airbus A321neo, his colleagues closed the doors behind him, and Celikten found himself locked in the cargo hold of the plane. The guy screamed and hit the fuselage, but it was all in vain - nothing could be heard over the noise of the engines, and the plane took off for Greece.
The fact that Ali was not there was noticed when the plane was already halfway there. Colleagues looked at the footage from the surveillance cameras and immediately reported everything to the dispatchers, who contacted the pilot of the plane heading to Athens and told him that a hostage of circumstances had been in the luggage compartment all this time. After that, the plane, which was in Greek airspace over the Aegean Sea, turned back and landed at Izmir Airport.
All this time, Chelikten was freezing among suitcases, boxes and bags. At an altitude of 11-12 thousand meters and at a temperature of about -25 ° C, the loading employee spent about an hour and a half. Ali wrapped himself in things that he managed to find in someone else's luggage so as not to die.
The guy almost lost his legs, but doctors were able to help him. Ali continues to receive treatment for the consequences of narrowing of the blood vessels of the brain due to being in a depressurized environment. After the incident, he contacted the prosecutor's office with an accusation of negligence.
