In 1994, Gordon Cordeiro from Hawaii was found guilty of the death of Timothy Blaisdell. The case concerns the murder of Timothy Blaisdell in 1994 during a robbery of a drug dealer on the island of Maui.

Cordeiro's first trial ended with only one juror voting to convict him, and it seemed to everyone that the police were pulling a fast one. However, he was later found guilty of murder, robbery, and attempted murder and sentenced to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole.

For three decades, the man denied his guilt and sought acquittal. Thanks to the use of new DNA research methods, Cordeiro was released from prison on February 21.

The American said that the first thing he did was go to a restaurant and eat a steak, and then went to his mother's grave. Cordeiro admitted that he did not recognize the world he returned to, primarily due to the development of mobile communications. According to him, it is very unusual to see people constantly communicating. "Everyone is looking at their smartphones," he described the fact that surprised him most in an interview after his release.
