Tragic incident at a construction site in South Korea
Three people were killed and five others were injured in a collapse at an expressway construction site in the South Korean city of Cheonan.
The accident occurred at about 9:50 a.m. local time, or 3:50 a.m. Moscow time, on a section of the Seoul-Sejong Expressway. Workers were using a crane to move a steel structure between supports, which consisted of several iron beams. They were fixed to the top of the bridge. At some point, five 50-meter steel beams supporting the bridge collapsed one after another. Emergency services quickly arrived at the scene. The cause of the collapse is still unknown. Footage of the incident has also appeared on social media.
Following the tragedy, the National Fire Agency issued an order to mobilize firefighters. This was done in order to find those missing as a result of the accident. In addition, Acting South Korean President Choi Sang-mok gave emergency orders to deploy all available resources and personnel to carry out the rescue operation, Yonhap news agency reported.
