Chinese electric car Xiaomi SU7 Ultra broke the Porsche Taycan record (3 photos + 1 video)
In addition to the improved lap time, the Chinese electric car showed a higher top speed.
Xiaomi has published a video of the SU7 Ultra electric car racing on the Shanghai circuit. It shows that the four-door car was able to improve the time shown here by the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT - the German company announced its record in October 2024. The SU7 Ultra beat the Taycan by almost one and a half seconds, but judging by some circumstances, this is not the limit.
The Chinese sedan covered the 5.4-kilometer track in 2 minutes and 09.94 seconds, while the German electric car needed 2 minutes and 11.28 seconds. In addition, if the Taycan accelerated to 300 km/h on the longest straight of the circuit, the SU7 Ultra reached 323 km/h.
Xiaomi was helped by a noticeable advantage in power. Porsche installs engines on the Taycan in the Turbo GT version that can develop up to 1109 horsepower, while the SU7 Ultra engines provide 1548 hp. At the same time, the chassis settings of the two electric cars are comparable and focused on racing driving.
It is possible that the Chinese four-door could complete the lap even faster. Porsche's Shanghai record was set by professional test driver Lars Kern, while the SU7 Ultra was reportedly driven by one of the development engineers. It is noted that, unlike the Nürburgring race, a standard electric car was used at the Shanghai Autodrome - exactly the same as the one that will soon be available for purchase.
Xiaomi plans to launch direct sales of the SU7 Ultra in China on February 27. Pre-orders are accepted at a price of 814,900 yuan, which is more than half the starting price of the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT in China.
