UAV likely crashed in Romania: country scrambled fighters
On the night of January 17, 2025, Romania scrambled fighter jets due to an attack by Russian UAVs on Ukrainian cities. One of the drones could have fallen on the coast of Romania. This is reported by the publication Digi24, Censor.NET reports.
At 1:46, an air raid alert was declared for residents of Romanian villages over the Danube. Locals saw explosions from the Ukrainian bank.
The Romanian Ministry of Defense later reported that it scrambled 2 F-16 fighters. About two hours later, the planes returned to base.
They noted that in the area of the village of Plauru, opposite Izmail, they found a place of "a possible UAV crash." Now specialists are working on the site and collecting evidence.
"The Ministry of National Defense sends a strong signal of condemnation of these attacks carried out by the Russian Federation against civilian targets in Ukraine and infrastructure elements, which are unjustified and seriously contradict the norms of international law," the Ministry of Defense reported.
NATO structures reported the incident.
Earlier, the Air Force stated that during the UAV attack on the night of January 17, one drone left Ukrainian airspace in the direction of Romania.
