Locals say they heard "strange noises" and shared footage of the drone falling from the sky.
“On the evening of March 28, fragments were identified that likely came from an aircraft on agricultural land on Great Brail Island. The Ministry of National Defense, together with specialized structures of the national defense system, public order and national security, is conducting an investigation into the incident that occurred on Friday, March 29. according to special operational procedures," the defense department said.
It comes after Moldovan authorities said three explosions occurred near its border with Ukraine overnight, according to local media reports.
The Romanian edition of CNN Antena 3 claims that the wreckage was found 12 km from the city of Braila. The drone's crash shortly after midnight was reportedly accompanied by a loud bang.
According to sources, it was a Russian drone that was supposed to attack Ukrainian ports on the Danube and, most likely, its GPS guidance system had failed.
