A baby gorilla was found in contraband at Istanbul Airport. Customs officials handed the adorable little one over to specialists.
Customs officials from the Ministry of Commerce inspected the cargo and found a baby western lowland gorilla, an endangered species. The animal was sent from Nigeria to Bangkok, Thailand.
According to the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora, its international trade is prohibited.
The primate was handed over to specialists from the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry.
A representative of the ministry said: "Baby is feeling well. He was confiscated during customs control when they tried to transport him without the necessary documents. Employees of the Main Directorate for Nature Protection and National Parks are taking care of him and providing him with proper care."
"Rehabilitators are working hard to help the gorilla regain his strength and health. They are committed to creating a safe environment for the animal's well-being."
