I live on an island near the North Pole, where polar bears visit houses (3 photos + 1 video)
Cecilia Blomdahl lives in Svalbard and talks about her life in the Arctic. She has 2.9 million followers on the social network. In one of her videos, she spoke in detail about the dangers she has to face.
The blogger shared that polar bears sometimes try to get into homes, and explained how she protects herself.
“The last time a polar bear visited here was 20 years ago,” she said.
Cecilia’s house is located far from the city.
"It has no electricity or amenities," Cecilia explained. "In winter you can only get there by snowmobile, and in summer by boat."
The secluded location attracts wildlife, including polar bears.
"Polar bears often sneak into houses, and recently one was seen very close to the city. So here in Svalbard you always have to be careful," Cecilia warned.
"Every time you go outside, you have to look around the corner, look around."
She also shared that her dog helps her: "Grim is comfortable in the fresh air, and he warns us about approaching animals long before we notice."
Blomdahl always takes a gun with him: "On Svalbard, it is necessary to have a firearm to protect yourself from a polar bear outside the village. This is especially important when traveling."
She clarified: "The gun is only for life-threatening situations."
