Massachusetts residents helped save a 20-year-old blind cat. She nearly fell through the ice of a frozen lake and miraculously survived.
A woman named Dawn spotted Tiki (later it turned out that this is the cat's name) on Lake Nabnasset: she was "circling" on a piece of ice located about 9-12 meters from the shore. Dawn called the local animal control service, specialists went to the scene.
But before they could arrive, the ice under Tiki began to crack: the cat began to sink under the water, and only her head was visible on the surface. At that moment, two men who were nearby rushed to help their pet. One of them "jumped into the nearest boat" and began to break through the ice with a shovel - a few moments before Tiki finally went under the water, the man pulled her out.
After that, Tiki was taken into the house and wrapped in a blanket. The cat also received veterinary care: however, specialists were worried that she might not survive. Tiki was very scared, shivering from the cold and looked lethargic. And the animal's body temperature, according to doctors, was so low that even "the thermometer didn't show it."
Animal control officers began an urgent search for the cat's owners. Fortunately, Tika's owner soon contacted them: he said that the cat had escaped the previous evening and reported that she was blind.
Experts believe that some kind of "predator" may have "driven" Tiki to the lake. The cat may have spent the entire night there. Fortunately, Tiki is now doing well: she is resting at home with her owners. Animal control officers say that the cat's rescue is a "real miracle."
