Despite YouTube restrictions in the country, the video quickly went viral, collecting 1.5 million views. According to new laws in Iran, women are prohibited from singing solo on the streets and for mixed audiences. Also, representatives of the fair sex should not appear in public without a hijab and, especially, in clothes with bare shoulders. Violators face up to 10 years in prison, and in some cases - the death penalty.
According to Mizan News Agency, the judiciary declared Ahmadi's performance "illegal, unauthorized, and not in line with the country's legal and cultural standards." A lawsuit was filed against Ahmadi and those involved in organizing the concert.
Ahmadi became especially popular in Iran after her performance in 2022. The artist performed the old ballad "From the Blood of the Motherland's Youth," which was widely distributed on social media. This song was her response to the brutal detention of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini for "wearing the hijab incorrectly."
