How coal is mined with a pickaxe: an old mining method

Mining coal underground with a pickaxe is a labor-intensive and dangerous process that was the primary method of obtaining coal before the invention of modern mining machines. In this video, we show how it was done in the old days: miners manually knocked coal out of the earth, overcoming physical difficulties and risks.

Before the advent of modern mechanization, miners used pickaxes, crowbars, and other hand tools to extract coal.

Working in the mines of that time was dangerous: miners faced the risk of cave-ins, toxic gases, and other hazards.

In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, mechanization began to replace manual labor, but old methods of coal mining remained in use for a long time.
