Miss Pearl: The Big Squirrel's Little Secret (7 photos + 1 video)
The squirrel and the nut are one of the most striking examples of universal harmony.
The world's largest squirrel statue has settled outside of Austin, Texas, on an ordinary stretch of Highway 71. The mischievous little creature is clutching a pecan larger than a human head in its paws.
Miss Pearl, standing almost 15 feet tall, lures 30 to 100 people a day off the highway to take pictures with her.
As for the choice of treat the sculpture's creators chose for the squirrel, it most likely has something to do with the nearby Berdoll Pecan Candy & Gift Company, a family-run business that includes a candy store, gift shop, pecan orchard, and a huge, adorable squirrel statue.
The statue was created in August 2011 for the Berdoll company, and Miss Pearl received her name from the customer as part of a competition. In 2015, the squirrel goddess's appearance was updated, a fresh coat of paint was applied, and a platform was built so that the furry beauty could support her many fans.
It's available 24 hours a day, and while the nearby gift shop is open during normal hours, there's an always-available vending machine outside with fresh pecan pies. It's restocked daily for late-night snacking inspired by this giant, happy squirrel.
