Lopburi residents have long suffered from a growing monkey population, and authorities have built special enclosures to keep the aggressive animals at bay. However, on Saturday, about 200 primates broke free and caused mayhem in the city, with one group attacking the local police station.
“We had to close the doors and windows to prevent them from entering the building to get food,” said police captain Somchai Sidi. He also expressed concern that “looters” could have destroyed property, including police documents.
