The woman insisted that the man give up the journey and not risk his life, but he decided to show his loyalty.
A man cycled nearly 4,400 km to southwest China in 100 days to reconcile with his wife, who had become estranged after two years of separation.
Zhou, in his 40s, originally from Lianyungang, east China's Jiangsu Province, met his wife Li in Shanghai and they married in 2007.
They had already broken up in 2013. However, they later reconciled and married again, after which the couple had a son and a daughter. Some time later, they divorced again due to personal conflicts.
"There were no serious problems between us, we were just both very stubborn and acted impulsively, which led to several breakups and reconciliations," Zhou explained.
He explained that despite the quarrel, they stayed in touch. During one of their meetings, Zhou suggested that Li get back together. She said she was going to Lhasa.
"If he could ride a bike there, I might think about reconciling," the woman said jokingly.
She didn't expect Zhou to actually do it.
The man started his bike journey from the southeastern city of Nanjing on July 28, and in 100 days he covered 4,400 km, finally reaching Lhasa on October 28.
During his journey, Zhou encountered two significant incidents. The first was in eastern China's Anhui province, where he suffered heatstroke and needed hospitalization
The second, more serious incident occurred in Yichang, in central China's Hubei province, where he collapsed while cycling on the road, again suffering heatstroke in 40-degree heat, and ran out of water.
"The situation in Yichang was serious enough that my wife even traveled hundreds of kilometers to take care of me," Zhou recalled.
Li asked him to cancel the trip, but Zhou said he would complete the journey.
Upon arrival in Lhasa, the couple held a small reconciliation ceremony and formally announced their reunion.
